Privatization as an Effective Policy Tool

Rational economics should trump vested interest politics when it comes to ownership of Canada’s largest firms.

Where Government is interfering in an industry that does not require its presence, we believe privatization is an effective policy tool. A policy of “Big Government” and large state-controlled industries stifles competition and innovation, hurting the economy and ordinary Canadians.

In order to be effective, privatization must be implemented with great consideration. The only thing worse than a “public monopoly” is a “private monopoly”. Encouraging competition should be an underlying goal.

In established industries, such as banking and energy, there is no need for Government interference.
