On Cronies…

August 29, 2009 · Posted in News, Personalities, Policy

We all know that Stephen Harper only appoints hard-nosed, staunch Conservative cronies and bagmen like, uh, Gary Doer.

Wha?

Gary Doer, the former NDP Premier of Manitoba, as Canada’s most important and most influential diplomat?

Oh, the headaches the Liberals and their media elite buddies must have today!

Could it be … maybe, just maybe … that Harper appointed those nine Senators because he could trust them to make the reforms necessary to make the institution of the Senate worth saving, and not because of some control-freak, frothy-mouthed, wild-eyed moment of partisan thrashing and thrusting?

Well, certainly not if you believe the Liberals and their media pals.

Don't worry they are spinning it as an attempt to counter the partisanship of the senate appointments and the only way a right-wing administration can talk to Obama's administration.

All things being equal = A wise decision by this PM.

Who says political talent and saavy can only be found in downtown Toronto? Isn't that Ignatieff's problem - too much Toronto all the time? I really like this appointment on so many levels. Gary Doer is capable and will be a fine representative of Canada to the USA. He will bring Western Canadian pragmatism to the forefront. Then there is the political consideration - its delicious - stymies Jack and his anti US ravings and Ignatieff is flummoxed because its thinking outside the box, something he has never done. Cheers.
