Idiots of Canada Unite!

Harper chastises the evil dictator of Zimbabwe, and the left jumps all over it on the CBC forums, comparing Harper to Mugabe.

Have the partisans in our country really sunk this low?

North American Union (a.k.a. Imminent Invasion from Mars)

An old friend of mine recently asked me about what I thought of this “evil” North American Union (“eNAU”) conspiracy quietly infuriating the lefties of the nation.

First, I must say, I think North American (and global) political union is inevitable. This said, I strongly doubt it will happen in my lifetime – unless the earth is invaded by space aliens, forcing the issue much earlier. Otherwise, I expect it to happen sometime within the next 1000 years.

I first heard of the “urgency” of this matter about a month ago (Andrew Coyne came and spoke at the Fair Vote BC conference, which was mostly made up of Greens and NDPers). A gentleman with a graying ponytail got up at the meeting and asked a question in the context of the “North American Union” which “everyone knows” Harper is negotiating with Bush right now, with the intention of giving away all of Canada’s resources, especially water.

I was very upset. I complained to one of the few Tories in the room that I didn’t get a copy of the memo. Then I called up “Steve” on my cell phone and queried him about eNAU directly (OK, just kidding about this).

Andrew Coyne was far more diplomatic in his response to the question (in his response he softly and respectfully suggested that the North American Union theory may not be as “conclusive” as the questioner had indicated, then proceeded to answer the other part of the question directly).

I had to know more. So I started doing my YouTube research – as we all know, if there is truth to be found, it’s on YouTube!

Despite the hard-hitting evidence, I found myself with more questions than answers.

The big one: What would the consequences of this be for all 3 countries?

I think Mexico would have much to gain from it (freely moving to America [or Canada], just for starters).

Canada, on the other hand, has a good thing going with supplying the U.S. with their oil (indeed, that’s the reason why our country has not yet suffered to the same extent as theirs). This is the reason why all the banter about renegotiating NAFTA was shot down so quickly earlier in the democratic nomination race – because the truth is that the U.S. has more to lose (as of today) from doing so.

Of course, you don’t need to scratch too far below the surface to find dozens of other reasons to oppose eNAU. You can get a sense of the general distaste of too much integration by reading polls such as the one by the Council of Canadians.

A very good economic case was made a few years back about having a North American Currency (which the Americans immediately shot down); despite the seeming benefits (at that time) to Canada, a clear majority of Canadians opposed it in every poll I saw on the issue. Even a clear majority of “business leaders” opposed it in a poll I read. Yet tied directly to this eNAU business is this notion of the “Amero” (go to YouTube and look this word up). Apparently not only is this currency a done deal, but they’ve already started minting coins and printing bills (although they look strangely like euros).

Of course this brings us to the United States. In Canada, we assume that their long-ignored “Manifest Destiny” means that they are constantly trying to take us over. Forget the fact that most Americans don’t want us (and sure the hell don’t want Mexico). But we can’t see past our own arrogance, so just assume they are all drooling at the border waiting for us to join their evil empire.

But before you even get to Canada, there is the whole issue of cheap labour from Mexico flooding their already weak economy. This is what scares the hell out of people like Lou Dobbs; Canada’s evil water, trees and polar bears are only secondary concerns.

The most laughable part, though, is Bush and Harper “evilly” working together on this in “evil” secretive meetings.

This doesn’t make any sense on the basis that Bush is a Republican.

Think of this: recent polls have shown Canadians about 5:1 in favour of Obama over McCain – swap McCain with Bush and I’m sure the numbers for Obama would skyrocket. In every USA election poll in Canada during my lifetime, the democratic candidate won (very often by a landslide).

So, a Republican President is negotiating Canada’s entry to the Union?

If Canada joined the United States and received even an unfairly low proportion of electoral college votes for its population, this political union would virtually guarantee a Democratic President for years! Why on earth would Bush want that as his legacy?

As a “sidelines” observer of this conspiracy theory, this is a major non-starter that makes it appear to be bordering on lunacy.

Frankly, I think there is a better chance that we are being visited by aliens (and occasionally abducted for their scientific research and/or twisted entertainment) than there is that Bush and Harper are secretly (and “evilly”) planning for evil North American Union.

But you never know … the truth is out there!

Hockey Night in Canada, indeed.

We have learned today that Hockey Night in Canada is losing its beloved theme song.

Why?

Because people like it, of course. It’s popular.

And we all know that the CBC does not do things that are popular … unless they are American TV shows and movies, of course.

Bang another nail in the CBC coffin.
