Oh Blessed Budget!

While Liberal supporters were tripping all over each other to praise Mr. Goodale for all his big-spending ways at the Liberal Convention today, an interesting comment came from our Prime Minister, Mr. Dithers, himself.

According to Dithers, during a “Go Team Ra Ra” Q&A he moderated, an off-handed remark shed some light on the real agenda of Canada’s fiscal heroes.

Apparently, “the shoe is on the other foot” with Ralph Goodale as Finance Minister. Because, we are told by Dithers, that Mr. Goodale was one of the most demanding big-spenders in Cabinet when Mr. Dithers himself was Finance Minister.

So, Mr. Fiscal Prudence Dithers, you decide to appoint a big-free spender as your Finance Minister? The budget now requires no further explanation, thank you very much.

To the same tune, one question for “Captain Deficit Defeator” came from a young supporter whose remark basically translated to: “If we could borrow money from the Bank of Canada, we could spend even more money! Wouldn’t that be great!”

Sometimes, it seems, “Tax and Spend” just isn’t enough!

Liberal Convention?

Did you know that this weekend is the Corrup… errr.. Liberal Party convention?

I totally forgot, actually.

I saw a last minute news item about them yesterday on CTV. While the major tragedy in Alberta overshadowed all the news, I found it quite interesting that the Liberal Convention was relegated to a “non-news” item.

We’ll see what happens as the convention progresses. It will certainly be interesting to compare it to how ours is covered.

I still remember the 1993 MuchMusic coverage of the Progressive Conservative coverage … “Hip Hop Hooray, Ho, Charest, Ho.” Wow, I just dated myself. No, I wasn’t there.
